Getting Married in Barbados

Requirements for Religious Ceremonies:

  • Valid passports or original or certified copies of the applicants’ birth certificates.
  • If either party is widowed, a certified copy of the marriage certificate and death certificate of the deceased spouse will be required.
  • If either party is divorced, an original Decree Absolute (not the Decree Nisi) is required. If the Decree Absolute is in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by a certified translation.
  • Application for a marriage license must be made by the bride and groom in person at the Ministry of Home Affairs, 5th Floor, General Post Office Building, Cheapside, Bridgetown, Barbados.
    • The Crane includes transportation to this office in its wedding packages.
  • If neither the bride nor the groom is a citizen or resident of Barbados, proof of return to home country will be required.
  • N.B: We suggest that you clearly state the legal marriage requirements of your nationality in the event that any other documentation is required.

Requirements for Civil Ceremonies:

  • Should you decide to have a civil ceremony, you will be required to visit the Magistrates Court during the licensing process.
    Please note that a strict dress code is in enforced – no sleeveless shirts nor flip flops are allowed.
